Kubernetes is hard to master!

Enterprises are rapidly adopting Kubernetes and there is an increasing need for proficient Kubernetes engineers. But there is a shortage in the supply of this talent.

On interviewing several cloud native engineers it became apparent that Kubernetes has a STEEEEP learning curve. Most were able to go from novice to expert with a tight learning process and with the help of community.

There are several reasons why Kubernetes is hard — requires sufficient experience with YAML. With Kubernetes you end up working with complex YAML scenarios. You must have mastery over networking concepts like Virtual IPs, routing traffic and more. Kubernetes relies on many small interconnected components — therefore studying the documents in good detail, referring back to them and understanding how to use these components in various situations can help you. Mastery of Kubernetes is possible if you accumulate sufficient scenario-based experiences.

Now the simple answer to accumulating sufficient scenario experiences would seem to suggest — first, you simply try things and second, when you are stuck , you search for relevant Stack Overflow questions? Read your mind?

This is part of the answer. While this would be somewhat helpful, you are seldom critically absorbing key pieces of information from relevent documentation or looking at related questions to broaden your understanding.

Effectively with a one-dimensional approach of only looking at the answer for your question you are limiting your understanding of the technology. You are learning how to solve the problem you are facing, but not understanding how to think and solve problems yourself…

And there are indeed times when your question has been asked before but never answered…. :|

Enter AI for Dev Support. Recently, Peritus Assistant went live on the Chrome Store.

Peritus Assistant aggregates knowledge articles, published documents, other forum posts, relevant posts from external Forums related to the question and topic you are browsing.

This helps you gain a 360 degree understanding of the technology.

A good way to gain expertise in Kubernetes is by getting exposed to as many scenarios as possible and leveraging Peritus Assistant to broaden your understanding.

As a bonus, you can increase your community reputation on Stack Overflow and other community forums — employers love to see this too

300+ DevOps engineers have already adopted Peritus Assistant.

“I’ve been working with Kubernetes for years and I enjoy helping people on StackOverflow…the Peritus Assistant is so helpful! With the AI and ML working in the background to retrieve recommendations — it changes the game!”

— Harsh Manvar, Kubernetes Expert

“This tool is very neat! I imagine it not only helping the ones answering questions on community forums to increase their reputation, but it can REALLY help those that are looking for answers.”

— ANSIL, Ex-Rancher Labs

“It’s really helpful when you come into Stackoverflow looking for answers — it streamlines your entire experience hunting for the answer — you get to clearly look at different posts both from official docs as well as stack overflow itself that are related”

— Guillaume Blaquiere, GCP Expert
